วิตามินเอ ช่วยให้เยื่อบุผิวชั้นในและผิวชั้นนอกของร่างกายแข็งแรงรวมทั้งเยื่อบุผนังมดลูกและช่องคลอดแข็งแรง แต่ในทางตรงกันข้าม การเสริมวิตามินเอในระดับสูงๆอาจทำให้ ประจำเดือน ขาดหายไป
วิตามินดีและแคลเซียม วิตามินดีช่วยการดูดซึมของแคลเซียม ซึ่งเป็นสารอาหารที่สำคัญที่สุดสำหรับกระดูก การขาดสารอาหารทั้งสองชนมีผลให้กระดูกเชิงกรานไม่แข็งแรง แม้ตั้งครรภ์ก็อาจจะมีโอกาสคลอดก่อนกำหนด และทารกไม่สมบูรณ์แข็งแรง
